Threats to kill and rape for protesting against ABVP
Gurmehar Kaur daughter of soldier who lay down his life in Kargil war against Pakistan intruders, is now receiving threats for protesting a gainst ABVP. Gurmehar protested against ABVP , an student organisation, in her unique way , on social media, by displaying placard reading as, I am not afraid of ABVP. Her photo went viral and many other students also showed her solidarity by doing exactly the same thing.
While she was receiving good support for her campaign #studentagainstabvp , against ABVP, on the same time she has received more than 100 threatening calls on phone, her facebook messenger and facebook page also. But unfazed by all those threats she said , she is firm on her stand against the organisation. Gurmehar was even threatened of rape , if she kept her stand. She was even accused of being anti national, but she reverted by saying, she don’t need to prove her to be national , but on the other side the way ABVP people have been behaving they need to check with their nationality. There is no need to remind that her father capt. Mandeep singh fought bravely for nation and sacrificed his life for nation.
Gurmehar told the media person she would like every student in the country to rise up and stand against the organisation like ABVP, which are abusing, involved in illegal activities , and use illicit ways of protesting. She said we need student organisations that should serve students instead of physically abusing them.
Whole incident started with a proposed seminar at the campus of the Ramjas college, where subject for the seminar was ” culture of protests ” , and many speakers like Umaar Khalid were invited. ABVP protested against the seminar. There are allegations that ABVP, supporters pelted stones and even beaten up some students from other student organisation.
ABVP has denied all the allegations against them. Ankit from the organisation said, that they were protesting peacefully and opposition students pelted stones on them , and in the stone pelting, few of the policemen were also injured.
On next day student from All India Association , along with professors of the college sat on Dharna to protest against ABVP and demanded the arrest of those responsible for creating trouble in the Campus.
