Mining mafia on run after elections in Punjab
Mania mafia is on run now, administration turned guns on to illegal mining in the state, as they feel free of political pressure now. Most recent case has came up in Pathankot, where mining mafia people find it better to leave machines behind and save their arrest. Earlier there were allegations of illegal mining from all over the state, and everything is happening under the nose of administration as no one dares to challenge them.
Political people , specially leaders of the ruling party , that included name of many big leaders, were named in illegal mining scams. Even some parties fought elections on this issue, which became one of the major issues in the recent Punjab elections 2017. Bikram Singh Majithia who is also brother in law of deputy chief minister Sukhbir singh Badal , was accused of running not only drug mafia but also sand mafia.
Now when elections are over and government is being run by bureaucracy , officers feel free of political pressure. Many other departments like electricity board have taken strict action against the defaulters who were shielded by political people earlier. Even some political leaders themselves also felt the heat of different departments.
In Pathankot police has taken eight JCB machines into their custody, which were left behind by the owners after finding police approaching them. According to the raiding party of the police, they have received complaints from the mining officer about the illegal mining that is taking place in the area.
DSP city Gurpreet Singh told the media person about the whole incident. He said that they have registered formal case and have started the further investigation. He further told that after verifying the documents of the mining machines, they will be able to find the address of real owners and will arrest them after wards.
Illegal mining is not only effecting economy of the state but it is also effecting the environment badly, which is why it is important to get rid of such mining mafia’s.
