
Land dispute lead to stone pelting on Ropar police
Ropar police found itself in awkward situation when they try to execute administrative orders to evacuate a piece of land in Ropar city. Problem started when disputed land was purchased by a party which when found it difficult to get it evacuated approached local court. After local court matter was shifted to High court, which instructed the administration to get it evacuated at the earliest.
When police party tried to get the land clear, those residing on that piece of four acres of land , opposed the police action. They started pelting stones on the police party, resulting in head injury to one of the lady constable, who was given first aid.
Baljinder Singh who is owner of the controversial four acre of land near Ropar bypass was cleared with the help of the police told that he has been fight for long time get his land vacated from illegal control of some local jhuggi dwellers.
He said police tried to get it vacated earlier also but was not successful in doing so. He said he bought the land when it is clear, but later these dwellers constructed their jhuggi’s and were stubborn to leave the place now. He was also injured in stone pelting, but sustains only minor injuries.
Earlier everything was going on smoothly as the occupants of the land were informed well before the final action was taken. People were seem to be co-operating but when police tried to remove some religious structure which locals says was a mosque, the situation became tense. People tried to stop the bulldozer , but when police tried to get them away , they resorted to stone pelting, on which police was left with no other option than cane charging.
Senior police officer who reached on the spot to take first hand report of the situation , told the media persons that situation is under control. Mehash Saini, SHO, said there was little resistance by the local residents, but it is not a serious matter at all. He said whatever orders we get from tehsildar or any other administrative office, they will implement it and will take the required action.
