Last Night near Chabal town in Tarn Taran today, Five persons were killed and four others seriously injured when the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in which they were traveling in collided with a combine harvester .
According to sources, the occupants of the MPV hailed from Budhsinghwala village in Ganganagar district of Rajasthan. They had come to Punjab on a pilgrimage.
The accident occurred when they were on their way to Gurdwara Baba Budha Sahib after paying obeisance at Darbar Sahib in Tarn Taran.
The deceased, who belonged to three families, were identified as Raju Bajwa, Ramandeep Kaur, Jasdeep Singh, Sukhbir Kaur and Sarabjit Kaur.
A police party led by DSP Sukhwinder Singh and SHO Sukhbir Singh reached the spot. The police, along with the local residents, had a tough time extricating bodies and the injured from the mangled remains of the MPV.
The police have registered a case against the combine driver who fled away from the site and is yet to be identified.
The injured were first admitted to a local hospital but were referred to Amritsar due to their serious condition.
