Is Mehar Mittal dead ?
Few days back social media and main stream media was flooded with the death news of famous Punjabi movies comedian shri Mehar Mittal ji. Later it was found to be fake news as he was admitted to the local hospital only and was out of danger. Fake news of Mehar mittal’s death shaked almost of every Punjabi sitting almost in all the corners of the world. After it was clear that he is all right and stable and news was fake, his fans were relieved.
But now we have a real news of Mehar Mittal’s death which is confirmed by almost all major media channels. He was not doing well for the last few months and was hospitalized. He breathed his last in Rajasthan’s Mountabu. He was in Brahmkumari’s ashram when took his last breathe. Mehar mittal was having his eighty second birth day on 24th of October, which he will not able to celebrate this year.
Mehar mittal was born in Bathinda in 1935 and has worked in almost all the punjabi movies few years back. As per rough estimate he worked in more than 100 Punjabi movies and also produced two movies himself, “Ambay Maa Jagdambay Maa” and “valeyti Baboo”.
In 1980’s except for few punjabi films, almost all the Punjabi movies had Mehar mittal in it playing historic amli role. No one at that time even think of producing Punjabi movie without his role in it. He was having such a amazing sense of timing that people just love to see him moving here and there and delivering dialogues in his own way.
Mehar mittal was born in small village in Punjab, but later moved to Chandigarh for studies. Very few people know that he was law graduate and even practiced law as a tax advocate for almost eight years in city beautiful Chandigarh. This lawyer later become undisputed king of Punjabi comedy.
Mehar mittal moved to Punjabi cinema at the age of 35 and started paying small roles of comedian in Punjabi films. He later moved to Mumbai and even worked in some Hindi movies as well.
His famous movies were , “Putt Jattan de”, “Babul da vehra”, “kehar”. He was even awarded with “dada sahib Phalke award” also for his tireless work and contribution to the Punjabi cinema.
He played historic role in films like long da lishkara and Sarpanch. Apart from these movies there is long list of films in which he played a comic role. Here is a small list :
