MTV lose their extreme Sports Star
An extreme sports star who appeared on an MTV show has died after he hit a tree while skydiving in California. Roner, who starred in Nitro Circus, was performing at the opening ceremony of a golf event in Squaw Valley in the north of the US state.zzxAll the other skydivers taking part landed safely in the golf course, home of the ski resort that hosted the 1960 Winter Olympics.
Placer County Sheriff’s Captain Dennis Walsh said Roner died at the scene and an investigation had started.Roner, a professional skier and base jumper, was known for being part of the Nitro Circus, an MTV show which featured freestyle motocross rider Travis Pastrana and his extreme sports friends.
Erik Roner also hosted American TV show Locals on sports network Outside Television.
Roy Tuscany, a friend of Roner, who witnessed the accident said two other parachutists landed safely on the golf course’s fairway for the 9th hole but that Roner then slammed into a tree about seven to eight metres (25-30ft) above the ground.He said Roner’s parachute got caught and the star was left hanging while people on the ground tried to find ladders to get to him.
